About Janelle Wright - Counsellor and Psychotherapist

I have worked in diverse communities with individuals and families for more than 20 years and have been in private practice for 5 years. Communities I have worked with include individuals and families with mental illness, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, same and opposite sex orientation individuals and couples, refugees, and people from all socio-economic backgrounds.

I have a Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy (Somatic Psychotherapy Institute Australia), Graduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling (Institute of Social Relations and Relationships Australia).

I’m also a Registered Nurse with post-graduate qualifications in child and family health and mental health. I’ve worked in private practice, hospitals, clinics and also in people’s homes. Included in my experience is working with families of infants from antenatal period to age 2 with a focus on parent and infant interactions, breast and bottle feeding, play and teaching situations with a focus on promoting optimal attachment behaviours.

My style is empathic, conversational, curious, interested in your concerns and how they have come about. Relationship patterns from early life usually continue into adulthood. An important part of the work in therapy is to bring those relationship patterns into awareness and to consider which patterns are still useful and how to change ways of relating that are no longer serving you well. I’m guided by both psychodynamic theory and systems theory.
